Alfred stood up and stretched, closing his eyes to give them a well-deserved break after hours of staring at a computer screen. The movement attracted the attention of Arthur, who glanced up over his book to see what was going on.
"It must be the sign of the apocalypse, you getting off the computer without me forcing you to," Arthur remarked. "Are you done holding turkeys and making inane comments?"

A cheerful state with a large number of Italian and Irish ancestry. Has a prominant aircraft industry. Flies all sorts of planes and helicopters in his free time. Loves taking members of his family for rides. Typically is the one who flies America to meetings in foreign countries. He was the second state to allow same-sex marriages.
He enjoys spending time with Kansas and Ohio, who are also airplane enthusiasts, but can typically be found hanging out with New York, New Jersey, and Massachusetts, serving as a sort of peacekeeper between the three. They get into all kinds of trouble together and he has become a pro at talking his way out of things. Even when he's annoyed, he keeps a smile on his face and his tone light. His siblings always know they're in big trouble when he adopts that very soft, calm, straightforward manner of speaking.
He's a bit of a flirt and when he's overseas he spends his time doing light drinking in bars, flirting with the local patrons. (At home, it's not uncommon for him and Massachusetts to get into drinking contests. It's a rather even match between them.)
